A blog about my the history, acquisition and operation of my 1911 Model 62 Stanley Steamer.

The 2012 BABE Run

Tour #1 for the Stanley under my ownership! I got started firing the vehicle up about two hours before the tour to make sure I could take care of any issues should they arise. The Stanley flashed up as usual but once I had a full head of steam I noticed that the driver side blow down valve was seeping an unhealthy amount of steam. With the assistance of Pat we tried re-seating the valve but had no luck. It was decided that we better just plug off the valve to avoid possible issues. It was also noted that the valve was of the incorrect variety and should be replaced in the future.

Once that issue was remedied the tour went by like a breeze. I had to relight the pilot once because it would start to burn really rich when we would stop to regroup. I believe this issue will be remedied once I replace the adjustment needle and add the pilot shield.  I'm still getting used to right hand drive and having a reversed throttle to a model T but I'm sure that will come with time.

We had approximately 22 cars and 85 people out which was just excellent! Pat and Merrily came up from the states with their 1915 Stanley, 30 HP Mountain Wagon. It ran very well as always. Thank you to everyone in the club for all of the support and encouragement. I'm sorry I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to sit down and talk with people but there will always be the next tour!
