A blog about my the history, acquisition and operation of my 1911 Model 62 Stanley Steamer.

1000 Miles Traveled and Counting!

I broke the thousand mile mark during a breakfast run yesterday. I feel that it's a great accomplishment having only owned the Stanley for a little over a year. It ran very well for the just over one hundred I put on it. The pilot clogged up a couple of times and my fiber speedometer gear came out of mesh with the wheel gear and had to be disconnected. Other then those small issues the car couldn't be stopped. The breakfast tour was well attended with nine antiques. We visited Paul Carter's shop and got a chance to see his 1908 White Model L but it unfortunately wasn't steamed up for the occasion.

Another highlight was I finally got the chance to give my grandfather a ride in my Stanley. I'd been hoping to have done this sooner but breakdowns and limited time on tours had made it rather difficult. It was a short ride but it was good to see the smile on his face as we powered up some hills. No gears, just open the throttle and hang on. My uncle brought out my grandfathers 1912 Reo "The Fifth" which was also a delight to see back out on the road.
