At the end of the last tour I gave the Stanley a good once over and found a few leaks that needed some attention. The main fuel shutoff was weeping around the packing, the top and bottom of the boiler slight glass had some drips, the throttle needed to be repacked, the drivers side rear blow down plumbing was dripping, both engine valves needed to be repacked, secure the fuel pump packing nut, repack the front the water pump, and replace the oil winker gasket. It's all just standard maintenance with a Stanley.
Leaks are an escalating issue on steam cars and need to be addressed before they become a serious issue. Fuel and steam are of the utmost importance for very different reasons. Fuel, because the of the possibility of fire is always a concern. Steam, because a steam leak at 500PSI will quickly thread holes and create a massive breach.
